Lake Eyasi Day Trip
Just south of the majestic Serengeti plains at the base of Serengeti Plateau lies Lake Eyasi, one of several beautiful lakes on the floor of the Great Rift Valley. It’s a shallow endorheic salt lake that supports wildlife and the local communities of the Hadza, Iraqw, and Datoga tribes. The Hadza are considered one of the last hunter-gatherer African tribes with a dwindling population of approximately 1,300 tribe members. Lake Eyasi is also a seasonal stop for migrating Flamingos and breeding habitat for Flamingos and Pelicans.
Highlights:
- Drive 180km to Lake Eyasi
- Game drive around the lake
- Bird watching
- Walk with the Hadza tribe and try keeping up with their day hunting-gathering activities
- Drive to Ziwani Lodge for lunch and take walks by the lake
- Enjoy a superb view of the western flank of the Great Rift valley
- Drive back to Arusha for dinner and overnight stay.
